Everyone wants to look good on their college application and it can seem a mystery as to what colleges are seeking. However the truth is, you’ve worked hard preparing for college over the years and now it’s time to let that work shine. Here’s how to bring to light all that you’ve accomplished in your academic career and to demonstrate what makes you special.

Reach out to the admissions counselors of the schools to which you are applying

  • Do this early on in the process if possible so you may ask questions and learn more about information sessions offered by the school

  • Some counselors are willing to review your application before you submit it

  • Your regional counselor may be coming to your high school for a personal visit, be sure to attend

  • Regional counselors are often the first to read submitted applications

Be detailed, thoughtful, and thorough in your application

  • Be conscious of due dates

  • Rather than trying to provide what you think colleges are looking for, be your authentic self in your writing

  • Of course always be truthful and help colleges get to know who you are. This lends itself to a better fit and experience for all
